Sukanya Rahman to Exhibit Recent  Works at Gun Point Cove Gallery, Orr’s Island, Maine

Sukanya Rahman will exhibit her recent works on paper at the Gun Point Cove Gallery, 1241 Harpswell Islands Road, Orr’s Island, Maine  on Sunday, July 8. Opening reception from 1 pm to 5 pm.

Color, movement and texture are the primary jumping off points for Sukanya’s artwork.  Her mixed media constructions and digital works draw inspiration from Indian street art, popular American art, calendar art, and the vibrancy and flavors of Mexico. The materials incorporated into her works on paper are primarily handmade wood bark paper, silk paper, and handloom khadi paper.
A resident of Orr’s Island, Sukanya Rahman was born in Calcutta. India. She studied painting at the École Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris, studied dance with Martha Graham in New York, and wrote a memoir, “Dancing in The Family,” published by HarperCollins/India, which tells the story of three generations of her Indian classical dance family: Ragini Devi, Indrani Rahman & Sukanya.
She has exhibited her works in galleries from New York to New Delhi. The New York Times said of her work “Sukanya Rahman’s collages  have much to recommend them. Hers is an art of layering, of pulling together diverse sources, high and low, with no distinctions made.”
The exhibit will be on view through July 15. For further information log onto www.gunpointcovegallery.com
