I’m very excited to share with you news of the publication of my childhood friend Latika Mangrulkar’s first book of short stories and poems. Please do check it out.

Spanning across several generations and locales, Family Matters and Other Complications dramatizes the processes involved with immigration. As the world grows smaller and people emigrate every day, the emotional upheavals of trading identity and location that occur with such a major change are examined. Poems and stories touching various cultures are central to this book, which covers a span of 50 years, and chips away at various geographical boundaries and differences between people.

Latika Mangrulkar grew up in India, living all over the subcontinent before coming to the United States at the age of 22. She was the first South Asian woman graduate student in the English department at UMKC. She is a social worker/therapist and an educator, and lives in the San Francisco area.
